Liza’s Story

Orchestra Conductor.
Music Educator.
Innovator.

A young girl sneaks into a Detroit concert hall. It is an innocent, gleeful, purposeful act of rebellion. She studies the conductor, imagines herself ascending the maestro’s podium, sees her own orchestra, and begins conducting. It’s exhilarating.

Eventually she’s noticed, led away from the stage, meets the conductor, and the story ends on a positive note. Except it’s not an ending. It’s a beginning. Because now she knows. She belongs up there on that podium.

Liza hasn’t let go of that knowing, and her vision, for even one minute. She couldn’t, not when she had to outperform everyone else just to get noticed. Not through college where she learned to perform and fought to conduct. Not through countless professional gigs as a violinist and violist. Not when she’s opted to found her own orchestras instead of conforming to tradition.

Being a visionary isn’t confined to becoming a female conductor in a male dominated industry. It also led Liza to a natural concentration in conducting contemporary music -- all of it: movie music, rock and roll, pop, hip-hop, and breakthrough new classical works. She understands it, is uniquely able to prepare it, and has conducted hundreds of critically acclaimed
contemporary and new music performances.

Today Liza is a highly successful orchestra conductor and music educator.
She has studied and learned from world-class conductors and composers,
and worked with literal superstars in most every genre of contemporary music.

Just as important are her years of teaching and inspiring thousands of young musicians. Teaching students how to prepare and perform, and how to function successfully in the wider world of music, is a passion. It’s literally tattooed on her skin. And she delivers the goods, teaching them in every way possible how to work in a challenging, changing industry.
